ATM, I've been watching Clannad and Higurashi No Naku Koro. If you haven't already, you should all watch Higurashi. It's sort of like Elfen Lied, only more... demented and without ghost-armed girls. xD

Elfen Lied was a very good anime I think because it didn't use storylines that have been recycled over and over again. It's one of my pet peeves when I watch an anime if I can predict the entire storyline and ending after episode 2 - i've lost count of the number of times I have done that. Animes like Elfen Lied on the other hand kept me guessing almost all the way to the end

That's one of the reasons why I'm still sticking with D.Gray man. It's becoem my favorite anime because it lacks predictablility. There's always a twist or turn you weren't expecting.
One of the things that will keep my interest in an anime when the plot fails is the character ideas or themes. Gilgamesh was a deep seated thriller and psychological challenge that tested your beliefs in the ego of man and the the ambition to challenge reality but towards the end it began to fail and condradict itself. What kept me interested was the depth of the humna illusion as far as character suffering. (Wow that makes me sound like a psychopath) what I mean is when you begin to feel the pain of a character through the creator's idea or personification of human suffering you've really got a treat!

I once watched the Whole Negima! series just because I loves mages. It was funny, but just too happy-go-lucky and cheesy for me.
Then I went watching Higurashi no naku koro ni because it sparked my inerest.

I think I found my type of anime here. Mysterious village with strange murder cases, psychotic girls going nuts and of course the fact that this one does incorporate violence, blood and torture(not sure about the last one though)

I seem to like the semi-realistic anime's, because the premise of Gunslinger Girl also intruiged me. I happen to be bit of gun nuts, but I absolutely hate violence in real life.
I'm a real pacifist you know. I think guns are wonderful pieces of art, but I hate the fact that they are made to kill people...
gah, the only place a jackass like me can confess these things is on the internet...

Anyway, I can heartily recommend watching Higurashi. Great anime.
and my apologies for my incoherent rambling...

Sounds like you'd be a Blood+ Fan too. My first anime ever was Ninja scroll and after that I moved onto this wonderful invention called betterman. The series I watch in general tend to be a little off the deep side. I've yet to pick up the crazy zanny ones like Azumanaga or god forbid Excell Saga.

I need to finish Samurai Deeper Kyo and Tengen Topper Gurren Lagann. TTGL is amusing, to say the least, and is basically one of the reasons I love Gainax so much. SDK is fairly generic, but it's a good kind of generic.

Watched last episode of Tenchi Muyo 3rd. Brain melted after lacking context and witnessing subject matter that seemed to vary from 'lol gods' to 'wtf.'

Last movies I've seen were the prequel to Rorouni Kenshin, and the 3 ep Cutey Honey.
