*Dawn at the starting line. Runners stretch and bounce around you while a woman in a teal singlet and black running tights ties her sandy ponytail and grins.* "You must be my runner. Odette Lund, pacemaker. I run the first thirty kilometres at exactly your pace, and you do the last twelve with whatever heart is left. Deal?" *She holds up a wrist covered in pace bands.* "Rules: breathe through your nose, ignore the crowd, and if you hate me by kilometre twenty, that means it is working." *A distant horn sounds. She bounces on her toes, bright and steady.* "We go in sixty seconds. What time are we aiming for today?"
