The vampire and the orphan

It was winter and dark outside as Alexander was hunting, out in the woods. He liked this time of the year, it was cold but also early dark outside, so that it was no problem for him to walk outside. Being a vampire for a few hundred years now, he was common with how to hide it from the people, so that they won’t get suspicious about him.
He lived too long to let them just catch him and kill him because of their silly superstition and fear.

Even if all humans believed that vampires where cruel and heartless creatures, Alexander indeed had a heart, even if he didn’t show it often, especially not if he was hunting. At the moment, a deer was his object of desire. His blue eyes watched it as he slowly and soundless went to the animal, biting it before it knew what happened, the warm blood felt good as he drank it slowly.

He stroke some black hair out of his face as he finished drinking and put the animal gently on the ground.

Kale walked along the small path alone, his head down, his soft blue hair somewhat frozen from the cold and his pale skin shivered as he moved slowly. He had no home, no family, and nowhere to go as he trudged through the snow, his breath making small clouds, he was only 15 and as his remaining strength finally wore away and he collapsed, he layed limp on the path in the cold, the last thoughts before he passed out being 'Is this... how I end..."

Alexander was about to hunt another dear, as he noticed a smell that seemed familar to him. Death and a human. He quickly followed the scent, not sure if the human saw him hunting, so he looked around and noticed a boy in the snow.

"There comes the scent of death from...but he is still alive, I can hear his heart...", the Vampire thought and went over to pick the boy up. He wrapped him in his scarf and his coat (which he wore only to pretend he was human and taking a walk if someone would notice him outside) and took the boy with him, to his manor.

Over there, he layed him on the couch, after he fired the chimney and went away to make some hot chocolate. Of course he wasn't a man who was taking all the lost boys with him, but this one was nearly dead and needed his help at the moment. "His parents are sure waiting for him somewhere...", the vampire thought.

Kale woke, the warmth of the fire on him, he couldn't remember what happened, just a dull cold freezing him, he shuddered a little, looking around he found himself in a large room, a fire burning brightly to warm it

Kale woke, a fire warming his small body as he layed on a large couch, he couldn't remember falling in the snow and wondering if he was about to die, only a dull, cold blur

Alexander soon came back and noticed that the boy was awoken. The smell of death vanished and the vampire smiled satisfied. "How do you feel?", he asked.

Kale turned slowly to face the man, honestly quite afraid, not having a clue where he was or who the man was, "I... I-I'm... f-fine..." He said softly, hardly audible across the room

Alexander smiled friendly at him. "Good. What's your name and where do you come from?", he wanted to know, to make sure the boy was also remembering things from earlier. It wasn't uncommon that if someone was nearly dead, this person wasn't able to remember everything alright afterwards.

"K-kale... I'm from... the nearby village..." he said nervously to the man
